A vandalised family home used by vagrants and alleged drug addicts for years, is once again bathed in sunlight, exposing her degradation to all.
The surrounding vegetation and vagrants were recently removed from the Grand Old Dame (as the house is called), thanks to the constant complaints from residents.
“That the building has not been highjacked by these same elements is testament to the immediate neighbours who continue to work together, initiating legal processes, logging C3’s and using the correct channels to report criminal activity on site, and to our local armed response companies who every day remove dangerous drug addicts and vagrants from the premises,” the Milnerton Central Neighbourhood Watch (MCNHW) says.
The MCNHW says they consistently engaged with the police and the City’s law enforcement problem building unit and other departments to escalate the matter.
“While the relevant processes are being followed to wrap up the estate and secure the property it is our hope that removing the overgrowth will help the immediate neighbours to feel a little safer and ease the burden on our dedicated armed response companies.”
Getting their hands dirty
Members of the MCNHW and the surrounding neighbours donated their time to clear the plot, made financial contributions and provided much needed snacks and drinks for the work party.
Village
“The Milnerton village really came together yesterday, demonstrating great ubuntu, laying a solid foundation that can surely be built on.”
The MCNHW says this does not close the chapter on this property, nor does it mean they can drop our guard.
“The vagrants and drug addicts will return or find another soft target in Milnerton. We all need to remain vigilant and report all suspicious activity to your armed response company and engage with the neighbourhood watch if you are aware of houses with similar issues. The watch thanked the Milnerton Crime Watch Trust, Block Security and Crime Watch SA for their vigilance and dedication to the Milnerton community, “especially the surrounding neighbours who have been impacted the most by this situation”.
