With the recent spike in robberies along Potsdam Road, the Table View police have urged motorists to exercise caution as this is a hotspot area for robberies.

TygerBurger reported an increase in robberies on the N7 – especially at the Melkbosstrand- and Milnerton off-ramps during loadshedding.

The modus operandi of robbers is that they target vehicles that stop on the N7.

Motorists stop to pick up staff who live in Dunoon, wait for other vehicles or people, and sometimes break down or run out of fuel, all of which makes them very vulnerable to being robbed.

Table View spokesperson Capt Adriana Chandler told TygerBurger that awareness is important.

Tips to ensure safety:
  • Remove valuable items from your vehicle when you park it.
  • Park your vehicle inside your property where possible, and activate the alarm.
  • Make sure all your doors are locked before walking away from your car.
  • Activate your car alarm when it is parked.
  • When driving, make sure all your doors are locked.
  • When returning home, reverse your vehicle into the driveway, so that you can have a clear view of the entry, and can make a quick getaway, should someone enter your property.
  • When suspecting that someone might be following you, drive to your nearest police station and report your suspicion.
  • When stationary at an intersection, make sure your doors are locked, and windows closed.
  • Give responsibly, by donating to the various NGO’s and churches in your community, which will make sure destitute people will receive your donation.
  • Do not wind your window down at an intersection to anyone suspicious approaching your vehicle.
  • Always be alert and aware of your surroundings when driving.
