The Table View police had a busy week with drug-related arrests – two more men were taken into custody for the possession of cannabis.

In an unrelated case, a 32-year-old foreign national was also arrested by the Table View police after a raid led to the discovery of tik to the value of over R3,2 million at a hotel in Table View last week.

In the cannabis case, the two men were observed in Battersea Bend, Parklands, one seated inside the vehicle and another outside.

Capt Adriana Chandler, Table View police spokesperson, says when the man standing outside the vehicle noticed the police vehicle approaching, he started behaving nervously, and the officers found his behaviour suspicious, so they went to investigate.

“The officers immediately smelled the odour of cannabis when approaching the vehicle and knew there could be drugs inside the vehicle. The driver was instructed to exit the vehicle and the officers informed the two men that they were there to execute a routine stop and search.

“The officers’ persistence paid off when they discovered large quantities of cannabis concealed inside a large plastic bag and a backpack. The cannabis, has an estimated street value of approximately R30 000,” Chandler says.

Court appearance

The two men, aged 34 and 44, were arrested and taken to Table View Police Station for further detention until their court appearance at the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court.

The Station Commander, Col Junaid Alcock, has welcomed the arrest and applauded the officers involved. He is appealing to anyone with information about criminal activity to contact the SAPS Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or reporting it via the MySAPS app, which can be downloaded from the app store.
