Cape Town police have launched a manhunt for the suspects behind a deadly mass shooting in Goodwood that claimed the lives of a 29-year-old and a 61-year-old man, and left three others wounded.

According to Col Marius Roux, acting station commander at Goodwood police, the shooting took place in Grey Street at around 13:15 on Saturday 19 July.

Reports indicate that the occupants of a silver VW Polo were travelling along Voortrekker Road when unknown gunmen opened fire on the vehicle in a brutal daylight ambush. Two men died at the scene, while two others were rushed to a nearby hospital.

“A sixth passenger miraculously escaped without injury,” confirmed WO Joseph Swartbooi, provincial police spokesperson.

Swartbooi said the motive for the shooting is believed to be gang-related.

The anti-gang unit has taken over the investigation and is currently probing two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.

The suspects fled the scene and remain at large. Police are urging the public to come forward with any information that could assist with the investigation.

“We appeal to anyone with information to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or to use the MySAPS mobile application anonymously,” Swartbooi added.
