An intelligence driven take down operation led by police attached to provincial and Mitchells Plain detectives detained four gang leaders aged between 25 and 43.
Officers converged on pre-identified locations where they were briefed pertaining to the task at hand, in the early morning hours of Wednesday 19 March.
Armed with intelligence and warrants of arrest, they departed to different locations within the City of Cape Town District where they tactically approached the identified premises to execute the search warrants.
After entry was denied, the officers used force to enter the premises. They ensued with a search, resulting in the confiscation of mobile devices, laptops, and a substantial amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime.
The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court on charges of murder perpetrated in Mitchells Plain in April 2013, March 2019 and December 2020, as well as the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition which was registered in April 2020 in Tafelsig. The accused also face charges related to the contravention of the Proceeds of Organised Crime Act (POCA).
