Brackenfell High School has announced the arrival of shipping containers that will be converted into a state-of-the-art broadcast and podcast studio.
The two containers have been delivered to the school’s premises last week and represent a significant milestone, which is being made possible through corporate sponsorship.
School spokesperson Reinhardt Hamman says the studio will provide a unique “living lab” for students in an era where digital literacy is fundamental.
“The facility will address career readiness as the media landscape has shifted. By mastering live streaming, audio engineering, and digital hosting, students gain marketable skills in production, journalism, and public relations before they graduate,” he says. “The Brakkies Podcast will give students a platform to discuss issues that matter to them, while fostering public speaking skills, and providing a voice for the youth.”
Live streaming
In addition, through high-quality live streaming of sports including rugby, netball, hockey, and athletics, the studio will ensure that parents, and the broader community, never miss a moment of school life.
The vision is to create a self-sustaining ecosystem of school media, where a “media squad” of learners will be trained to handle everything from camera operations to post-production editing.
“We want to showcase the incredible talent and wisdom within our local community,” says Hamman, “by bringing local legends, teachers, and achievers onto our podcasts.”
The project has received support from multiple sponsors. Infra Impact has provided the primary sponsorship for the containers themselves, whilst Goscor Earthmoving Equipment and QuickSILVAGroup have contributed heavy machinery for site preparation work.
Additional support has come from Fenceman, which installed safety fencing around the upper level to protect camera operators, and Buzybuy, which has sponsored the fibre network infrastructure to enable high-quality streaming capabilities.
We are still looking for a partner to help us with a staircase to provide access to the broadcast studio.
“This massive leap forward wouldn’t be possible without our incredible sponsors,” Hamman added, expressing gratitude to all contributing companies.
The school indicated that the project remains in progress, with one outstanding requirement still to be fulfilled.
“We are still looking for a partner to help us with a staircase to provide access to the broadcast studio. If you or your business would like to be part of this legacy project, please reach out to us.”
Brackenfell High School is officially stepping into the forefront of modern media with the launch of its dedicated Broadcast and Podcast Studio. This facility is designed to serve as a hub for creativity, technical skill development, and community engagement, moving beyond the classroom to provide students with real-world experience in the fast-growing world of digital content creation.
