A petrol station in Eerste River has been the target of two “drive-offs” in two months.

The latest incident took place last Friday morning when the driver of a white Suzuki sedan sped away without paying for fuel, leaving a desperate pump attendant giving chase on foot.

According to staff, the male driver, with two female occupants, pulled up to the pumps and requested R300 worth of fuel. Once the attendant completed the transaction and stepped towards the window to collect payment, the driver abruptly accelerated and sped off the forecourt and onto the main road.

Witnesses described the pump attendant running after the fleeing vehicle in a futile attempt to stop the driver, but the car quickly disappeared into traffic.

“It happens in a split second,” said Nash Razzak on behalf of the filling station. “This is not an isolated event. Fuel stations across the region are facing a growing wave of non-payment incidents. For this specific Eerste River station, Friday’s loss marks the second such incident in just two months. We have implemented pre-payment policies, particularly during off-peak hours.”

The matter has been reported to the Kleinvlei police for investigation.
