Several key safety and security stakeholders took part in a vehicle checkpoint (VCP) and foot patrol on Voortrekker Road, Parow last week aimed at ensuring a crime-free festive season. The operation on Thursday 4 December was initiated by the Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District (VRCID).
Frederick Adriaanse, VRCID Parow precinct manager, says the primary objective of the VCP was to prepare the area for the upcoming festive season by maintaining a strong and visible safety presence. By demonstrating that law enforcement and security operations will continue uninterrupted, even as many businesses close for the December holidays, the patrols aim to reassure local business owners, while also signalling to potential offenders that criminal activity will not be tolerated during this period, Adriaanse says.

The operation brought together a broad coalition of partners, including the Parow police, newly appointed Metro Police officers, Fidelity ADT security personnel, law enforcement representatives, as well as various community-safety role players. Radio Tygerberg 104FM and the new local OK Minimark also took part, he says.
“Throughout the patrol, a number of vehicles were stopped, drivers’ licences were verified, and compliance checks were conducted. Where violations were identified, fines were issued in accordance with standard procedures.
“This collaborative effort underscores a proactive approach to safety in Parow, reinforcing the message that the area will remain vigilant and secure throughout the festive season,” says Adriaanse.
