An organisation from Delft is finding it difficult to keep up with their community work because they have not been paid.

Pastor Charles George from Home of Compassion Ministries says they were approached by Mzabalazo Advisory Services to do recruitment and training of young people.

The contract was valued at R853 000 for the 50 learners. Each learner also received a stipend of R1 800.

According to George they completed their part of the agreement and completed the training in May.

“We were supposed to be paid in three trances and we received the first two. But now we are struggling to get the R440 000 that is still being owed to us,” says George.

George says because they were not paid they had to make a loan to pay the learner’s stipend.

“I believe that Mzabalazo already received the payment and must just pay us. This kind of thing can cause the people in our community not to trust us. It can also cause young people to fall into gangsterism, because we cannot continue with our work,” says George.

TygerBurger spoke to Matungoe Chidi from Mzabalazo Advisory Service and he said George knows why they have not been paid. “Speak to me after you’ve seen the contract,” he said after the first call.

After studying the contract TygerBurger called back and Chidi again insisted that George knows why they have not been paid.

“The merSETA that we work for must pay us and it has not yet. George knows what is going on, so I do not know why he ran to the media. A soon as we are paid, we will pay him,” says Chidi.

TygerBurger couldn’t get hold of representatives of MerSETA and will add their comment to follow-up articles.
