The Western Cape Flying Squad
recovered a hijacked car and arrested the driver in Kalkfontein, Kuils River
yesterday (Wednesday 6 September).

According to a statement from provincial police’s Sgt
Wesley Twigg the Flying Squad officers were on the lookout for the car and spotted
it in Kuils River.

“On approach, the driver of the hijacked car sped off. A
high-speed chase followed and the driver off the hijacked vehicle lost
control.”

According to Twigg two of three suspects got out of the car
and fled on foot.

The officers searched the car and found ‘’an imitation
firearm, modified to shoot live rounds with ammunition, jewellery, and an
undisclosed amount of cash inside”, said Twigg.

Spokesperson of Kuils River Police, WO Liesel Beukes said
the car was hijacked in Sarepta and recovered in Elizabeth Street in
Kalkfontein.

The driver arrested is due to appear in Blue Downs Court on Monday
11 September on charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle, possession of an
imitation firearm and ammunition, robbery, and the possession of presumed
stolen property.
