Table View police officers with the confiscated drugs and money.

The sixth sense of Table View police officers attending a noise complaint led to the seizure of drugs and a large sum of cash at a residence in Deptford Road in Parklands last week.

When the officers arrived at the house, tending to the noise complaint, the occupants of the house could not get the key to open the front door.

According to Table View police spokesperson Capt Adriana Chandler after a while, the patient officers were invited into the house to explain the purpose of their visit.

“The occupants gave their cooperation to the officers, but on their way out, one of the officers noticed one tablet on the corner of a coffee table and decided to enquire about this tablet. The officer knew that it resembled a Mandrax tablet, but was interested in the explanation,” Chandler said.

The officers were told that it was a tablet for one of their pets. The person providing this explanation also started to behave very nervously.

“The officers then decided to call for assistance from their colleagues, because their suspicion that there could be more drugs was intensified.”

When the other officers arrived, one of the occupants, who identified himself as the owner, gave permission for them to search the property,

During the search, one of the occupants ran away from the scene but was shortly apprehended and brought back to the house.

The instinct of the officers paid off when scattered throughout the residence, various bags with illicit substances were discovered.

A total of 8 849 Mandrax tablets, a variety of ecstasy tablets, crushed ecstasy and more than R72 000 cash were confiscated.

A device used to crush the ecstasy tablets was also confiscated.

“Eight suspects, four men and four women, aged between 20 and 46 years, were arrested and will be charged with dealing in drugs,” Chandler said.

The case will be investigated by the South African Police Services’ Organised Crime Unit. The octet will be appearing in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court once charged”.

Table View station commander, Col Lindiwe Dyantyi, expressed her elation on the arrest and commended each officer for their involvement in the arrest and confiscation.
