A 30-year-old man from Strand was arrested after a firearm believed to have been looted in a burglary back in 2021 was found in his vehicle.


The dedication of an off-duty police officer secured the arrest of a man for robbery.

On Friday 29 September at about 14:20 Const Ruwayda Mlnoyeni was off duty and travelling in Voortrekker Road, Goodwood. She saw how a suspect robbed a lady and did not turn a blind eye. Not thinking of her safety, and not being armed, she gave chase and arrested the fleeing suspect. Mlnoyeni also recovered the stolen cellphone.

According to Capt Wayne Theunis, the spokesperson at Goodwood police, the 30-year-old suspect appeared in the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court on a charge of robbery.

Col Henry Hubbard, Station Commander of Goodwood police, commended the officer.
