Committed to the upliftment of the poor, a faith-based non-profit organistion in Brackenfell won three international awards during 2021.

Jesus to my Rescue Ministries and Outreach was named Best International Outreach Organisation (South Africa) at the International Acquisition Awards; Best Faith-Based Outreach Organisation (South Africa) at the African Excellence Awards and NPO of the Year (Cape Town) at the International Acquisition Awards.

Founder and managing director Jaco van As says they received the first call in June advising them that they had been nominated for an international award.

“A few weeks later we received another call from another organisation of yet another nomination. We had to submit a lot of info about our NPO, with proof of what we have done over the last year, our registration papers and photos. We also had to complete a huge questionnaire about our ministry,” he says.

“We had just about forgotten about these nominations, when a few weeks later we received the news from both these organisations that we have won. We won an award in 2015, but never thought we would do so again, and winning three awards and not just one came as a huge surprise and blessing. The work we do is not done to receive any kind of recognition, we do this for His Kingdom and people, which is why we do not really want too much media coverage, nor nominate ourselves for awards, but with other people nominating us and winning these awards, proves to us that the communities we serve value our work and that it makes a difference in the lives of many people.”

In Cape Town the NPO mainly works in Brackenfell, Kuils River, Kraaifontein, Durbanville and Happy Valley, where they distribute food parcels to struggling families and visit old-age homes and early childhood development centres.

The ministry, now 14 years old, has reached more than six million people through their website, radio station and social media channels.

“We have provided more than 14 000 people with hot meals, distributed thousands of Bibles and Christian literature, visited many in hospitals, their homes, childrens’ homes and old age homes and provided counselling to many. But, most importantly, thousands of people accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. Jesus to my Rescue Ministries and Outreach is not about me or any individual, its about the people we reach out to, its about the difference we make in the lives of millions around the world, and in particular Cape Town and Pretoria.

“What we do would not be possible without the support of people and who constantly pray for us, donate and sponsor various goods. Thank you so much for your continued support. We love and appreciate you.”
