Businesses, residents, and road users on Jakes Gerwel Drive (M7) are advised that night roadworks is currently underway in the area.

In a statement issued on Monday 9 February, the City of Cape Town’s urban mobility directorate said that the works are taking place along Jakes Gerwel Drive between Viking Way near Epping and Voortrekker Road in Goodwood.

The work started Monday night and will continue until 30 April later this year.

According to the directorate, construction work will take place between 19:00 and 05:00 from Monday to Saturday, weather permitting. It said residents can expect some delays in the evenings as a result, as traffic travelling in both directions will be affected. Road users are therefore urged to consider using alternative routes, while the construction work is underway.

“Our teams will be completing road works at the Jakes Gerwel Drive and Denneboom Avenue intersection as well as the Jakes Gerwel Drive and Voortrekker Road intersection. Residents and business owners can expect some noise during this time, however no work has been planned for Sunday evenings.

“This night work will ensure that we have less of an impact on traffic at these intersections during construction. We know that the roadworks along Jakes Gerwel have been under way for some time now, and we want to assure the public that we are working towards faster progress on this project.

“This sort of major road construction works does take longer than the average rehabilitation works,” said Rob Quintas, Mayco member for urban mobility.

The City recommends that road users be cautious while work is underway by lowering their speed, paying attention to road signs and being vigilant in and around the roadworks area.
