It’s been almost two months and Bellville South’s new station commander is more committed to the job than ever before.
Lt Col Hannes Erwee took over from the previous station commander, Lt Col Dirk Rademan, on 9 January.
Erwee says service delivery is important and wants to work closely with his fellow officers in reaching this goal.
His role as station commander comes after a career in the force spanning over 35 years.
Erwee started at Gordons Bay Police Station and has since worked at Parkview in Johannesburg en Grabouw Police station.
His longest two stints were at Bellville Police Sation and Bishop Lavis Police Station.
At Bellville, where he was stationed from 1991 to 2005, he quickly climbed the ranks, finally walking away as an inspector.
He moved to Bishop Lavis in 2005 when he became a Captain and stayed there until the end of last year. During this time he was sector commander for seven years. He says the experience gained into working with neighbourhood watches was invaluable.
Bellville South’s community policing forum says they’re happy to welcome Erwee and look forward to many productive times ahead.
