Construction of the new high school in Brackenfell is proceeding on schedule, with the R126 million project expected to reach completion by 1 December, according to officials of the Western Cape Education Department.
The ambitious educational infrastructure project will create a large-capacity school designed to accommodate 1 120 learners, significantly expanding educational opportunities in the area.
Once completed, the Brackenfell High School will feature comprehensive educational facilities including 30 standard classrooms with associated ablution facilities for both learners and staff, a large assembly hall equipped with kitchen facilities for catering services; a full administrative block to support school operations and three specialised facilities comprising two science laboratories and one specialist classroom.
Sports amenities will include an informal sports field and two netball slabs with entrance forecourts and play areas in addition to perimeter fencing and a parking area.

Active communication with community
According to project officials, while no individual buildings have been totally completed to date, all components of the construction are currently in progress and advancing according to the established project timeline.
“The development represents a significant investment in educational infrastructure for the Brackenfell community, with the R126 million budget reflecting the comprehensive nature of the facility,” says a department spokesperson.
According to the spokesperson, project stakeholders have maintained active communication with the local community through ongoing project liaison committee meetings.
“These sessions, which have been conducted since the project’s inception, ensure that community stakeholders remain informed about the development progress on the new school.”
The new facility is expected to serve as a major educational resource for the growing Brackenfell area, providing modern learning environments and specialised facilities to support comprehensive secondary education.
The December 2026 completion target positions the school to potentially open for the 2027 academic year, pending final preparations and regulatory approvals.
“Our Rapid School Build Programme continues to expand access to quality education across the province. School places are in high demand in Brackenfell, and we look forward to welcoming learners to a beautiful new school once it is completed,” provincial education minister David Maynier told TygerBurger.
