A MyCiti bus of the City of Cape Town that was involved in an accident was lying on its side next to the N7 highway early on Friday morning. The bus was lying next to the Malibongwe Drive off-ramp to the N7 (northbound). A hatchback vehicle was also involved in the accident.
The accident occurred around 07:15 and several emergency services including the police, traffic services, metro police and law enforcement and private ambulance services ER24 responded to the call.
Ineke van Huyssteen, ER24 spokesperson, confirmed that their services attended a scene where a bus and a vehicle collided near Malibongwe Drive, direction N7.“When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene at approximately 07:45 they found the bus driver and the driver of the vehicle standing outside next to the road. There were no passengers on the bus.“Upon further assessment, both patients were found to have sustained minor injuries and declined transportation to the hospital,” Van Huyssteen says.
City responds
Rob Quintas, Mayco member for urban mobility, told TygerBurger that the bus was on its way from the depot to Atlantis and had no passengers on board.
“The bus driver was not injured, and as far as the City is aware, the driver of the third-party vehicle also sustained no injuries,” says Quintas.The City is awaiting the full accident report from the Vehicle Operating Company (VOC). The incident has been reported to the South African Police Service.
“At this point in time we do not know the causes; this will form part of the investigation to be undertaken by the VOC.“Passenger safety is a top priority for the City, and we are committed to providing a world-class public transport system for our residents. “We will provide more information once the investigation has been concluded,” says Quintas.He says he is grateful that nobody sustained any injuries.
Van Huyssteen says the exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not known to their paramedics.
