Motorists in various parts of Durbanville, as well as in Welgemoed, Bellville, must brace themselves for major roadworks, starting today and scheduled to take place until mid-November.

The City of Cape Town‘s Urban Mobility Directorate advises residents, road users, businesses and the broader public of the planned roadworks in a media release today.

Vital investment

In Durbanville, roads in Langeberg Ridge, Langeberg Village, Schoongezicht, Valmary Park, Vierlanden, Vygeboom and Wellway Park East will be under construction.

“These roadworks in Durbanville and Bellville are a vital investment in maintaining a safe, reliable and resilient road network. Regular maintenance not only improves road safety and driving quality, but also extends the lifespan of our infrastructure and helps us avoid more costly repairs in future,” Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayco member for urban mobility, says in the media release.

Essential work

“We thank residents and road users for their patience while this essential work is under way as we continue to keep Cape Town moving,” he says.

The work is scheduled to take place from today, Monday 27 July, until Thursday 12 November, on weekdays between 09:00 and 15:30, Monday to Friday, weather permitting and subject to unforeseen delays.

The project will include the rehabilitation, resurfacing and resealing of existing roads; removal of damaged kerbs and installation of new kerbs; replacement of selected damaged channels and realignment where required; upgrading of gravel roads to asphalt roads; and reinstatement of all road markings removed during the construction process.

Affected roads

The affected roads are as follows:

• Langeberg Ridge: Ridge Road, Pine Wood Crescent, Patula Crescent, Jute Crescent and Maritime Street;
• Langeberg Village: Pioneer Road, Krisant Street and Merry Rocks Close;Schoongezicht: Noordsig Road, Koedoe Road, Vergesig Road, De Tyger Road and Oribie Road;
• Valmary Park: Jacaranda Avenue, Panorama Drive and Môreson Avenue;
• Vierlanden: Murray Street;
• Vygeboom: Tugela Road and Maroela Street;
• Wellway Park East: Tambotie Crescent, Primula Avenue, Lobelia Road, Dahlia Close, Cyclamen Road, Camelia Way and Tamarisk Street;
• Welgemoed, Bellville: Rheede Street, Van de Graaf Street, Jansen Street, Craig Street, Da Gama Street and Plettenberg Street.

Construction-related noise

Residents and business owners can expect some construction-related noise during working hours. Traffic congestion and temporary disruptions are anticipated while the works are under way. Road users are encouraged to exercise caution, to use alternative routes where possible and to allow additional travel time, according to the media release.
