As the silly season approaches the Mother City’s events calendar is filling up.

Here are some of the events you can diarise for the upcoming weeks:

This weekend

  • This Saturday the Khayelitsha Maskandi Festival takes place at Khayelitsha Rugby Stadium. This celebration of traditional music and culture features heavyweight acts like Mshayi and Mr Tela, uGatsheni and Majongosi. The 11-hour festival (11:00-22:00) promises an authentic taste of South African heritage.
  • Mountain biking enthusiasts won’t want to miss the grand finale of the FNB Wines2Whales on Sunday at Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West. After nine days and 200 km of challenging terrain, 650 teams of riders will cross the finish line from 09:00 onwards.
  • For adrenaline junkies Red Bull Spot Check transforms Cape Town’s CBD into skateboarding paradise on Sunday. World-class skaters will tackle iconic spots including City Bowl Park and the Company’s Garden, with free viewing for spectators. The action starts at Baseline Skate Shop on Kloof Street at noon.

Later this month

Events later in the month promises something for every taste:

• Women In Festival (13-14 Nov) — Celebrating female talent at Newlands Cricket Ground

• Ultra Trail Cape Town (21-23 Nov) — Extreme running through the peninsula’s stunning landscapes

• Red Bull King of the Air (22 Nov-7 Dec) — The world’s premier kitesurfing competition at Blouberg

• Italy in Town (22-23 Nov) — A slice of la dolce vita at Cape Quarter

• Surf Expo Africa (28-30 Nov) — The continent’s biggest surf and lifestyle expo

The month wraps up in style with the Heineken World Tour in Partnership with F1 at Green Point on 30 November, bringing Formula 1 excitement to the streets of Cape Town.
