An intelligence driven operation in Mitchells Plain led to the arrest of a suspect dealing in counterfeit and illicit goods and to the confiscation of goods and money to the value of R200 000.
“Officers attached to the national and provincial counterfeit and illicit goods unit led the integrated operation on Monday 1 July. The team pursued information at their disposal which led them to a local business hub in Mitchells Plain where they ensued with a search.
“They confiscated counterfeit and illicit goods ranging from expired food products, vape products and cigarettes as well as an undisclosed amount of cash,” says police spokesperson WO Joseph Swartbooi.
These products pose a health risk to communities and have a negative impact on registered businesses in the area. Police say this operation is against the spreading of counterfeit and illicit goods which pose a threat to the economy of this country.
