The Milnerton Community Policing Forum (CPF) is stepping up efforts to work closely with Milnerton police in tackling issues most affecting residents.
Following the first meeting held earlier this month the CPF said with new leadership structures in place restoring confidence in the local station is now possible. The focus is on practical improvements that make a real difference in everyday policing experiences in Milnerton.
In the past, some residents have expressed frustration with inconsistent responses from Milnerton police, unclear points of contact, and delays in addressing reported incidents. Community members have also raised concerns about limited visibility of officers in certain neighbourhoods and challenges at the front desk, which have sometimes left residents feeling unsupported and unsure where to turn for help.
Key objectives
The CPF is engaging the police on several priorities:
- Ensuring calls are answered consistently.
- Providing clear points of contact and communication.
- Achieving faster, more reliable responses where resources allow.
- Increasing visibility through sector-based policing.
- Improving front-desk and public-facing service.
“Strong, consistent police leadership and sector command are seen as critical to meeting these objectives,” the CPF said. “Better coordination, support for officers on the ground and stronger accountability are expected to result.”
Role of the Milnerton CPF
The CPF acts as a bridge between the community and police, working to strengthen safety through:
- Supporting neighbourhood watches.
- Tracking recurring issues and patterns.
- Advocating for realistic, achievable improvements.
- Improving information flow to residents.
While the CPF does not manage police operations its role is to foster constructive engagement with the police that leads to measurable progress.“Community safety works best when communication, leadership and cooperation are strong,” the forum pointed out.
Get involved
Residents are encouraged to participate and provide feedback. The Milnerton CPF is conducting a short community survey to understand how people experience police-service delivery.
“Feedback will help identify strengths and areas for improvement, so the CPF can work constructively with police to enhance safety in the area.”
