Meet the man who makes a difference in his community

Floorkiller doing his thing.

When you hear the name Floorkiller, it might make you think of a murderer, but this man is far removed from being a criminal.

Nic Matthee (Floorkiller’s birth name) was inspired by dance movies in the 90s to start his own brand of dancing.

He eventually became a sought-after dancer and even featured on different television shows.

Eventually he joined the Belhar Neighborhood Development Forum in Belhar and the Freestyle Dance League in Mitchells Plain.

“My love for community work lead me to eventually starting the Killer Community that got children into educational projects. I also returned to Delft where I successfully upskilled youth and young adults. We did a variety of concerts and performed at children’s homes. Some of the children also received funding to study further in the arts,” says Floorkiller.

Nowadays Floorkiller is partnering with Patrick Lategan from Elsies River in the Touched by Style Community Arts Project.

“We are creating opportunities for young people in the community to participate in the arts. We have produced various movies that gave young people their break in the industry. We have changed many peoples’ lives and are planning to keep on changing lives,” says Floorkiller.
