A 9-year-old from Bonteheuwel needs your help to get to get to the 17th World Gymnaestrada in Amsterdam in July 2023.
Meeka Gordon is a goal-driven young girl who would like to represent her country with pride in the Netherlands, but there are some stumbling blocks and the biggest one is money, says her mother Pam.
“Children from less fortunate clubs always have the struggle to raise enough money to get to tournaments. Even if they have the skills to be better than other athletes, they will always struggle to achieve their goals, because of the lack of money,” says Pam.
According to Pam, they have tried everything to make Meeka’s dream come true.
“As a family we have come up with various ideas to raise money for our daughter, to enable her to pursue her goal of competing as an aspiring gymnast on the international scene and showcasing her abilities. We have raised some funds from raffles and two events and plan to facilitate three more events.
“Where my daughter lacks money she makes up with her passion for the sport. She has been doing gymnastics for almost four years, is passionate about gymnastics and has the potential to go very far in the sport. I would say that she’s looking forward to being an Olympic gymnast one day,” says Pam.
Meeka started her journey in Gymnastics when her aunt got her into a gymnastics club in Athlone.
“She was hooked the moment she went, but they have limited equipment and don’t have a gym or studio of their own,” says Pam.
For Meeka to achieve her dreams of going to Amsterdam, she will need R40 000, If you want to donate, please contact Pam on 078 068 2681.
