A manhunt is underway for the man who shot a 12 year-old-boy in the head yesterday.

Mitchell’s Plain station commander, Brigadier Brian Muller, said the boy and the adult he was with were shot in Tafelsig, late yesterday afternoon (2 October).

He said the suspect is known to police and there is currently a manhunt underway to find him.

The boy is undergoing treatment at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital and is in a critical condition, Muller said. The man was in his late twenties and was shot in the leg.

According to ward councillor Norman Adonis, they were standing together in a soup kitchen queue when a gang member ran up and opened fire. The boy was caught in the cross fire, he said.

Adonis said he had made an appointment to visit the boy who was being treated in ICU because the bullet was still lodged in his head.

The neighbourhood watch in the area said the man who was with the boy is a known gangster.

Muller said that the identity of the shooter has been made known to police who are searching for him.

“We’ve spoken to the boy’s father who said that he evicted him two weeks ago, so we are still looking for him,” Muller said.
