Residents are calling for immediate action to address the root causes of this violence and to bring those responsible to justice.
“We don’t feel safe,” says one of the residents who did not want to be identified as he fears for his safety.
“We constantly have to look over our shoulder and wonder if we are next. We cannot live like this,” he told the newspaper.
Milnerton police says it officers attended to a complaint of murder at Ingwe street in Joe Slovo Park last Monday. Upon their arrival at the scene, they found the victim, an unknown man, with gunshot wounds in the head.

More murders
Just last week, Milnerton detectives asked the public to locate the family of a deceased person, an unknown black man who was found lying on his bed at MT244 Mshini Wam squatter camp in Joe Slovo.
“His age is estimated to be late thirties. At the time of his passing the deceased unknown male was wearing a black jean and a black jacket. The community members only know the deceased by the name Lebo. No documents were found in his possession to identify him and his nationality is unknown,” Madyibi says.
TygerBurger reported in May of a 28-year-old woman, Gcobisa Mabija, who was shot and killed in Joe Slovo Park.
In April this year, an extortion related incident left two men and a security guard wounded during a shooting in Joe Slovo.
According to a witness who asked not to be named, two men were inside a shop allegedly robbing it.
“The two alleged robbers fled the shop and went to Racecourse Road direction and ended up on Long Claw Road where they were caught by a security company. The emergency services were called to the scene and the wounded were taken to the hospital.”
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk previously said they are investigating two counts of murder.
“Milnerton police are investigating a double attempted murder case, following an incident on Monday at 18:00:00 in Joe Slovo Skrobeni, where two adult males were shot and injured.
“According to reports members attended a shooting incident at a medical facility in Du Noon. On arrival they found both victims, who were transported with private transport to the facility. Meeting
In a recent Milnerton Community Policing Forum (CPF) meeting, it was confirmed that Dunoon and Joe Slovo are the areas responsible for the highest number of cases reported to the Milnerton Police Station.
Dunoon is the main contributor to contact crimes and out of the 500 cases reported, half are from Joe Slovo and Dunoon, Milnerton Police Station commander, Brig T Tito. confirmed.
At the meeting Ward Councillor Anthony Benadie said he had two challenges: the growing perception that law enforcement has replaced the police.
“It says it is such a process just to get a vehicle repaired. But we have to fix what is wrong with the police. He reiterated that the City is only complementary to the police who have all the powers and many more officers than the City, but the City does not have all the powers the police has. That is why it is so important to get the powers of the police dismantled,” he said.
