An elderly man allegedly shot himself inside a firearm store at the Groot Phesantekraal View shopping centre in Durbanville.

According to information, the 82-year-old man bought ammunition at Dave Sheer Guns Cape Town at the shopping centre.

He was firing shots at the indoor shooting range when he was fatally injured. Paramedics attended the scene.

Inquest registered

According to Capt. F.C. van Wyk, provincial media spokesperson, the incident happened last Thursday 25 June at 12:00.

“An inquest was registered for investigation at Durbanville police, following the incident at the indoor shooting range,” he says.

“The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation. The investigation continues,” Van Wyk says.

TygerBurger approached the firearm store for comment, but a spokesperson of the firearm store preferred not to comment on the incident.
