A 47-year-old man was arrested and detained yesterday (Wednesday 21 June) for the murder of an eight-year-old boy in Peerless Park North, Kraaifontein.
The boy was found dead in a bed at a friend’s home in Drostdy Street during a sleepover, according to provincial police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi.
According to available information, one of the adults when getting up at night to use the bathroom noticed the child was not breathing.
At the time, a death inquest was opened, and evidence was collected from the room.
Earlier this week, police were still awaiting the results of the post-mortem.
“This office can now confirm that Kraaifontein police arrested and detained a 47-year-old male on a charge of murder,” Swartbooi confirmed.
“This office will not divulge the finer aspects of the case at this stage as it forms part of an investigation” he added.
The suspect will appear on a charge of murder in the Blue Downs Magistrate court tomorrow (Friday 23 June).
The investigation into the circumstances will be conducted by the Kraaifontein family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit.
