The majorettes team of Soneike High School have made some tremendous progress over the past five months with the sport still being a fairly new addition at the school.
Coach Chantal Lombard says the schools’ team started competing in their first full season of majorettes in the Federation of Dance, Drill, Cheerleading and Majorettes of the Western Cape (FDDCMWC) this year – competing in seven categories whereas they only competed in some mini-group or solo categories last year when the sport was introduced at Soneike.
“As a first year participant in the Drill Team categories amongst many other schools, they have successfully accomplished their goal for 2022 and have been selected to represent Western Cape at the National Championships taking place in Bloemfontein from 11 to 14 July.”
Lombard says the team consists of 23 aspiring and dedicated young athletes who commit their time to the sport daily. “All their hard work has definitely paid off.” She says they have had some fundraising initiatives and are planning a few more but it remains a challenge. “Please assist our athletes to make their dream a reality to attend the nationals this year.”
