Ward councillor Jonathan Mills spent a day engaging with residents and stakeholders across the Bloubergstrand and Table View areas recently, addressing a range of community concerns and ongoing projects.
The day began along Coral Road, where discussions were held with residents about the role of contractors and security companies in improving waste collection days. Efforts were being made to reduce disruptions and illegal dumping, making bin day more manageable for households.

Tackling cleanliness, infrastructure and safety
Mills then walked a section of the R27 cycle path with a concerned resident, focusing on ongoing efforts to improve cleanliness and maintenance in the area. The route, frequently used by cyclists and pedestrians, has been flagged for attention as part of broader clean-up initiatives.
A visit with the police followed, where Mills met with a detective regarding an illegal taxi operator previously identified in the area. The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to address unlawful activities and improve safety.
The councillor also made a stop at a local TLC facility to meet staff and welcome a new team member, before heading to Bellisima Beauty Academy. There discussions centred on potential financial-support opportunities for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, highlighting a focus on skills development and inclusion.
Community spaces in focus
The day concluded at Torrington Park, where ideas were shared on how to rehabilitate and improve the public space for residents. Community input remained central to shaping plans for safer, more accessible recreational areas.
Mills said the day highlighted the importance of staying connected to community needs. “It’s been a busy day meeting residents across the ward in this beautiful weather, and each engagement plays a role in improving our area. From tackling bin day challenges and addressing illegal activity to supporting local organisations and looking at ways to upgrade public spaces, we’re working step by step to make progress where we can.”
He said work on these and other matters would continue in the week ahead, as efforts to improve service delivery and community wellbeing remain ongoing.
