Northern and Tygerberg vaccination lead Delray Fourie (centre) accepts an award on behalf of her team. The award was presented by Dr Giovanni Perez, the chief director for Metro Health Services, and Dr Lizette Phillips, the chief director for Rural Health Services.

Healthcare workers from Brackenfell and Kraaifontein were honoured for their hard work and selfless service during the covid vaccination roll-out last year.

They received awards at a ceremony hosted by the provincial health department last week.

The vaccination teams at the Brackenfell Town Hall and Kraaifontein and Scottsdene clinics were recognised for their efforts. Certificates were handed to them by provincial health minister Dr Nomafrench Mbombo and head of department Dr Keith Cloete.

“The roll-out of a vaccination programme is our best chance of overcoming this pandemic as vaccines offer protection against severe disease and death. Whether they have been working in administration, procurement, social mobilisation, safety monitoring, training, clinical or information management, it is appropriate to formally acknowledge officials for helping the province administer close to five million vaccines,” says Mbombo.

Nominations for the Covid-19 roll-out recognition awards were submitted in November 2021, with nominees being identified for the ways in which they excelled in the provincial vaccine roll-out efforts.

Delray Fourie, the vaccination lead for the Northern and Tygerberg district health office, has thanked her team for their hard work and efforts.

“I’d like to thank all our healthcare workers who have worked tirelessly over the past year to roll out our vaccination programme. These awards are a small token of appreciation for your hard work, but know that nothing could give the sufficient recognition you all deserve for all the lives you have saved and continue to save through the vaccination programme. Thank you for your hard work and bravery during this pandemic. Thank you for standing on the frontlines and saving lives. We also thank our partners who have made this roll out easier. We are able to provide the best vaccination because of all of you. We thank you for your continued support and dedication.”
