As the annual 16 Days of Activism of No Violence against Women and Children campaign comes to a close, community organisations still continue to raise awareness against such abuse, informing victims where they can seek help.
One of those organisations is the De Grendel Lions Club, which recently teamed up with Cedar Spar in Bothasig. On Friday 5 December it held a pamphlet drive to inform community members on how to get help when domestic violence occurs.
Jacques Mostert, spokesperson for the Lions Club, said customers were very grateful for the initiative, some making sure they took a pamphlet so someone they know experiencing abuse could make use of it, or just to gain more knowledge on the subject.

“With the aim of raising the awareness bar even higher Cedar Spar produced a limited number of purple-coloured hamburger rolls, which was quite a talking point for customers, but very popular in sales. The purple hamburger roll sales were well supported, even by the men.”
Local resident Women’s Springbok rugby player Anushka Groenewald also supported the initiative.
Glenda Hon, Lions Club president, thanked the owners and staff of Cedar Spar for their positivity towards the project the Lions Club members as well as the MOSAIC Training Service and Healing Centre based in Wynberg, for providing the pamphlets. She also thanked Groenewald for participating in such an important cause.
