All the participants in the reading competition received goodie bags.

The Huguenot Square Library recently hosted their annual reading competition.

Dr van der Ross, Riebeeck Street, Symphony and Matroosberg Primary Schools were the contestants.

According to Cheryl Petersen, the library spokesperson, Senior Librarian Daniel Arendse welcomed all the teams and their supporters.

“After everyone had a snack to eat, Joy April did a wonderful motivational talk and our Yeboneers team did an energetic icebreaker with the children. Amy Victor, our librarian, did a library orientation before the contest began,” says Petersen.

Petersen says the competition was tough but eventually there could be only one winner in the Afrikaans and English categories. “Hunter Warne from Riebeeck Street was the winner in the English category and Tyreec Buys from Dr van der Ross was victorious in the Afrikaans category. All the participants were handed a goodie bag, however, the six top stars received special goodie bags. We wish to thank everyone involved in the smooth running of this competition, especially the councillor for his sponsorship, the staff for their dedication and commitment, the teachers for the preparation of the contestants and April for her wonderful contribution,” says Petersen.
