The Unity Adult Community Learning Centre, with classes in Eerste River and Macassar, recently held its first combined matric ball at False Bay Primary School.
According to Jay-Lee Joubert of the centre, the event was made even more meaningful by having a 55-year-old student, Angela Samuels, in attendance. “She passed her matric with a Bachelor’s pass and the rest of our students passed with a diploma pass. She is truly inspiring and reminds everyone that it’s never too late to pursue education and you are not too old to learn,” says Joubert.
Hard work
Joubert says the ceremony recognised the hard work, perseverance, and dedication of the students, who worked tirelessly to achieve their academic goals. “It was an honour to witness and celebrate this milestone together with the Class of 2026. Our passionate lecturers at Unity Adult Community Learning Centre are so proud of each and every one of them, and we wish them well and everything of the best for their future endeavours. We believe this story highlights the impact of adult education in our community,” she says.
