If you’re looking to keep your little one busy during this summer season, then sand sculpting is your answer – teaching children that “patience is key”.
TygerBurger previously reported on sculptor Reon Zeff with his magic hands. Zeff brings delight to those promenading along Bloubergstrand Beach opposite Ons Huisie with his elaborate sand sculptures.
Zeff says he felt compelled to teach others (not only children) this craft. “I don’t only teach children but adults too. It is a fun activity for parents and their children, especially during the summer,” he says.
Sculpting for over 22 years and teaching children the craft for 15 years, Zeff says making sand sculptures is a great way to calm children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
“I’ve worked with children who have ADHD and have seen great success,” he says.
“Sand sculpting is a patience game, which some ADHD children lack. That’s why it works so well for them. It is also a marvellous way to teach children three-dimensional art,” he says.
Zeff, like many others, was hit hard by the covid pandemic and had to find new ways to earn an income. He stole the hearts of many on the beachfront with his creations and is well-known for sculptures of sea creatures.
Zeff says work usually streams in during the summer season.
“That is when everyone is on the beach, having fun.”
