The newly-elected Kraaifontein Community Police Forum (CPF) is hitting the ground running with plans to combat crime through increased community involvement and strategic partnerships.
According to acting CPF chair Gavin Riddles, a comprehensive master plan is currently being drafted, focusing on uniting residents, law enforcement and local stakeholders in the fight against crime.
“Our first step will be to host community imbizos and establish sector sub-forums,” he pointed out.
“We want to make sure every resident has a voice and a role to play in improving their quality of life.”
The CPF officially kicked off its activities on Mandela Day with a heartwarming all-sectors meet-and-greet. The event, held in collaboration with various local partners, saw food handed out to street children and clothing distributed to the homeless to support the most vulnerable in the area.
Engagement
Looking ahead, Riddles says, the CPF has several events planned, including a special service and prayer meeting aimed at standing united against crime. A Women’s Day celebration is also on the cards to honour the dedicated women who contribute to community patrols and safety initiatives.
Riddles emphasised awareness campaigns and consistent engagement with the public will be key priorities to strengthen the CPF.
“One of our main objectives is to push for more policing resources and the expansion of the current police station,” he said. “The establishment of a community court is another major goal, but it’s something we can achieve only with strong community backing.
“As crime remains a serious concern in Kraaifontein, the CPF hopes its grassroots approach will inspire long-term solutions. Our strategy emphasises community involvement, and we hope that by engaging directly with the people most affected by crime, their efforts will promote involvement among community members. Ultimately, our goal is to help reduce crime and improve safety.”
