A house robbery was reported in Plattekloof Glen last week in which jewellery and electronic devices such as cellphones were taken. The Monte Vista Plattekloof Glen Neighbourhood Watch says two suspects were apparently involved.
“It is my understanding that when the son of a family heard something suspicious going on and went to investigate, the robbers fled the scene seeing him, and ran across the N1 towards N1 City Mall. I was also on the road looking for them when I got the news.
“I found traffic services and highway patrol on the N1, and when I stopped to inform them they were already informed by District Watch and had already been patrolling the N1 highway,” says Deon Oosthuizen, vice-chair of the neighbourhood watch.
The house is located in Westerwijk Avenue, Plattekloof Glen.
The son of the family also flagged down a security officer of District Watch who was in the area at the time, says Oosthuizen. District Watch also shared the news of the incident on their social media pages on 13 January, confirming that one of their officer were flagged down by a resident in the area.
The police were also notified.
Oosthuizen says it is becoming more common where criminals are looking for weak spots and testing security systems at homes, adding that due to the sporadic nature of opportunity crime, it is very difficult to police such incidents.
“That being said the good news is, despite these events, that our area, including the greater Goodwood area, has seen a decline in crime. I cannot but help notice that this coincides with the new recruits that have bolstered the manpower at our police station,” he says.
Oosthuizen says hopefully the police at a national level will continue pouring resources into stations as it’s making a huge difference.
TygerBurger is still waiting on an official comment from the Goodwood police.
