Local civic association, the Highbury Foundation, has announced that corporate sponsors have stepped in to support its annual Women’s Day five-a-side football tournament.
Chairperson Winston Middleton said it had proudly self-funded its annual Youth Day and Women’s Day football tournaments in Kuils River for the past four years. These events play a crucial role in keeping local youth engaged, active and inspired. However, a severe lack of funding recently forced the organisation to cancel its 2026 Youth Day event.
Refusing to let the community down twice, the foundation rallied, securing vital partnerships with two sponsors, Greystone ITC and Riverland Springs, to rescue the upcoming fifth annual Women’s Day tournament.
Event details
The tournament will take place on Monday 10 August at the Sarepta Sports Grounds in Kuils River.
Registration opens at 08:00 on the day. Entry and registration are free of charge, with all-female and mixed teams given priority. Matches start at 09:00, each game lasting 10 minutes. Games are played on netball courts, meaning all players must wear takkies only.
A maximum of seven players is allowed per team, with five playing at any time. There are three age categories: 12-13 years, 14-18 years and over 18 years.
Due to limited space and a packed schedule of alternative activities, a restricted number of teams will be accepted.
Aside from the football matches, those attending can look forward to an inspiring guest speaker and live demonstrations from local girls showcasing diverse sports codes, including judo, weightlifting and hip-hop singing and dancing.

Coaches must submit their team lists in advance via email to winmid124@gmail.com or WhatsApp on 082 202 3214.
Organisers urge coaches to WhatsApp as soon as possible to obtain the official registration form and secure a spot.
