Alert anti-gang unit officers made a substantial drug bust in Delft on Monday 6 October following a high-speed pursuit that led to the seizure of nearly 1 000 Mandrax tablets and a significant quantity of crystal methamphetamine, police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said.
According to Twigg, the arrest occurred when members of the anti-gang unit conducted routine crime prevention patrols aimed at reducing gang violence in the area and spotted a white BMW travelling at excessive speed. When the driver failed to stop, officers gave chase before bringing the vehicle to a halt in Justifina Close.
A thorough search of the vehicle and driver revealed 924 Mandrax tablets, a large quantity of crystal meth, and an undisclosed amount of cash. Police arrested an adult male on charges of drug dealing.
In a separate operation, Twigg said Malmesbury crime prevention unit officers, working alongside law enforcement, conducted a vehicle search that uncovered 222 parcels of dagga. This led to the arrest of another adult male on possession charges.
Both suspects are expected to appear in the Bellville and Malmesbury Magistrates’ Courts respectively once formal charges have been laid, Twigg added.
These arrests highlight ongoing efforts by Western Cape police units to combat drug trafficking and reduce substance-related crime in local communities.
