Lifeguards at the Milnerton Surf Lifesaving Club came to the
rescue of two beachgoers at Milnerton Lagoon Beach on Sunday 12 November, after
reports of two near-drowning incidents.
After stabilising the patients, the lifeguards
(voluntary-, pro- and off-duty) carried them across the deep, fast-flowing
current at the mouth of the Diep River to the paramedics, who were waiting to
assist on the opposite bank of the river mouth, the club said. No fatalities were reported.

The Milnerton Lagoon Beach is a no-swimming beach 1 km from the Milnerton
Lifesaving Club, with no lifeguards on duty.
“In a separate incident on Sunday, a vigilant off-duty
lifeguard was out riding waves on a knee-board when he spotted a young nipper
(junior lifeguard) being sucked out in a rip current,” the club stated.
“He
quickly changed course and managed to reach and assist the distressed boy and
returned him safely to shore. We salute our lifeguards for their selfless
service to our community.”
