A leash-free dog park is on the card for West Riding in Table View

A new round of public participation for the approval of a leash-free dog park in Table View is set to take place in October.

The motion for the leash-free dog park and recreation in Ward 113 was on the Subcouncil 3 agenda again last week where André Louw, a representative of the City of Cape Town’s Public Participation Unit (PPU), gave feedback on the matter.

The area for the park is located around Appaloosa Crescent and Circle Road, West Riding in Table View.

Louw says the unit had some challenges in the last round of public participation, but that this had been ironed out.

He says the next round of public participation will take place this weekend.

Joy Solomon, Ward councillor, agreed that it should be scheduled for this coming weekend and that last weekend would not have been a perfect time due to the public holiday on Monday (Heritage Day) and the long weekend. The weather was also not favourable.

“We want the best public participation, and perhaps do it in the first weekend of October,” she says.

A first and unsuccessful public participation process was held in June.

At the previous Subcouncil meeting, Solomon mentioned that a nearby school also indicated that it wishes to make use of the land. The West Riding Primary School wants to create a drive-through to enable parents to drop off and pick up their children.

“They have an issue with cars at 08:00 and 13:00. It is absolute chaos. They want to use it as a drive-through,” Solomon told councillors at the time.
