Staff and learners from Helderkruin Primary is proud of their majorettes who qualified to take part in the national championship in July.
Two members of the team were also chosen to represent the national team in Croatia later this year.
Shanté Petinger, chair of the majorettes, says they are part of the school’s identity.
“The school has been participating in majorettes for more than 20 years and we have dedicated learners. The majorettes serves as a pillar of strength and empowerment for our girls. Through this sport our participants have developed crucial life skills such as character, confidence, pride, teamwork, leadership and a positive work ethic. It has provided them with a platform to rise above the daily challenges they face in our community and strive for a better future,” says Petinger.
According to Petinger the majorettes need the community’s help to achieve their future goals.
“In 2022 we placed 5th in both the large-drill and small-drill categories. We have consistently secured positions in the top two in the various provincial competitions this season, winning the small drill section, as well as the flag and non-prop pom group section at the Western Province 2023 Championships. The hard work and dedication of our girls have also been recognised at the national level, with five SAMCA athletes selected from our team, and two of our members being chosen to represent the national team,” says Petinger.
In order for the team to get to their commitments, they need money, says Petinger.
“To ensure our continued success, we are seeking financial assistance to cover the expenses associated with our participation in the South African Majorettes and Cheerleading Association National Championships from 1 to 8 July. Specifically, we require support for transportation to and from Durban, as well as sustenance during our stay in Durban.
These expenses include lunch and snack packs, water, energy drinks and other essential supplies,” she says.
