Many of Goodwood’s residents are still in high spirits over the significant decrease in crime in the area, as evident in the latest crime stats released on Friday 30 August.

However, many remain worried about “window cleaners” at the big four-way stop at Voortrekker Road and Jakes Gerwel Drive.

Residents who frequent this intersection have raised concerns about the intimidating behaviour of some individuals who offer to clean car windows.

One resident described a recent encounter: “Those guys are very dangerous and rude. For the third time, if not more, they swore at me, and one even hit against my window with the tool they use to clean windows.”

The “cleaners” are often still there as late as 19:00.

Children

According to John Ross, Chair of Goodwood’s Community Policing Forum (CPF), they have received complaints about that spot and “about children at the intersection of Frans Conradie and Jakes Gerwel.”

He claimed to know the identity of these children but said it appears as though nothing is being done to help or remove them.

“These children threaten motorists and throw glass bottles at the cars if they do not give them cash. We have been liaising with the City and Social Development for well over 18 months.”

“I am sure the authorities will wake up when someone is killed or seriously injured. We are not aware of any problems at Voortrekker Road except the smash-and-grab incidents,” says Ross.
