As a long time resident of Goodwood, I would like to reiterate the “Crackdown on speed is Important” letter (TygerBurger 11 September) by “Observer” from Brackenfell.

I am calling on all concerned fellow Goodwood residents – and citizens of the city – to address the increased speeding and reckless driving, especially down Frans Conradie Drive and down the side streets, within our residential areas.

I am a resident that has been contacting relevant authorities regarding this issue and have repeatedly requested the placement speed cameras at the intersection of Vasco Boulevard and Frans Conradie, and along the extensive Frans Conradie Drive, for the last five years now and due to, it seems, a lack of sufficient, cumulative complaints from others, the issue has not been addressed and is in fact getting worse.

I am imploring fellow residents, if you care about your neighbourhood and have seen the increasingly reckless driving and speeding in your areas, to please lend your voice to help stop this issue. It is definitely a safety hazard and a matter of law and order.

If you recall the drag racing down Frans Conradie Drive, that began around 2019 and if you have seen the sudden, unneeded changes to speed limits signs – from 60km in Frans Conradie Drive to that of 70km now, as well as the 20km signs within side streets, now changed to 30km – and wonder why the speed limits have been increased, please join me in asking for explanations from relevant authorities. Why was this speed limit increase necessary within residential areas?

Why they are ignoring, several years of residents complaints about reckless driving and speeding, specifically, in these exact areas where they have not assisted in helping with the speeding problem but instead made it worse by increasing the speed limits?

Please, join me in holding authorities accountable for; no acknowledgement of the speeding problems, that has been exacerbated by the speed limit increases, still no speed camera placements and the lack of traffic law enforcement visible on our streets, in recent years.

It is our responsibility as residents and citizens, who have to live with these problems daily, to hold them accountable.
