Herman Laubscher and re-elected president Glenda Hon with the Charter of De Grendel Lions Club handed to her during her induction.

The De Grendel Lions Club recently celebrated the induction of its president for the year 2025-’26. Glenda Hon, current president, was unanimously elected to serve a second term.

Herman Laubscher, Lions District 410W 1st district vice-governor, officiated and inducted the new president at a function held at the Edgemead Seniors Club. He congratulated Hon and mentioned that the club is a very important cog in the community relating to the service of others. He wished her well for the upcoming year and thanked the members for the friendly reception received. Hon thanked club members for their outstanding work over the 2024-’25 year and presented club members with certificates of appreciation and awards.

The Lion of the Year Award was awarded jointly to Kathy Gentz and Jacques Mostert. The New Lion of the Year Award was presented to Terry Web.

A special certificate and word of thanks was awarded to outgoing treasurer and past president Martin Thelander, who served as treasurer for 36 years. Although stepping down he will still assist by mentoring the new treasurer, Ronell Fourie.

Hon also recognised Lions partners in service with certificates of appreciation.

It is always a happy event when a new member is inducted into the club and the smiles and happy faces were a testament to this when the newest member was formally inducted as a De Grendel Lions Club member, a spokesperson said. Laubscher officiated again when Janice Scrimgeour, a well-known local resident, was inducted. He wished her well with her new Lions family and thanked her for taking service to others seriously enough to join the Lions.

Hon thanked the De Grendel Lions Club members for the confidence it had in her by re-electing her as president. She said given the calibre of people serving in the club it can only go from strength to strength.
