You’re never too old to have fun or to get active, senior citizens in Bellville South proved last Wednesday at their first Inter Club Sportsday for Senior Citizens.

“I’m 70, can you believe it?” one senior said proudly after finishing one of the numerous events, which included names like pass-the-ball, duck walk, dress-up, egg and spoon and brisk walk.

The event was hosted by the Proteaville Senior Fitness Club, which held a similar event last year, but with their own members.

This year the Peace Haven Senior Club and Bellville South Cultural Senior Club joined in the activities.

Participants seemingly had great fun taking part, with some clubs having enough members for an A and B team.

Some saw the event as a great way to relax, with organisers having to stop many from going to the tuck shop too early, for fear of missing their events. “Only the diabetics can go now!” an organiser said to the crowd.

The Bellville South Cultural Senior Club were the winners of the day. Here they are with the organisers of the event.

Others were quite competitive, running like their lives depended on it and beating other teams by big margins.

The Bellville South Cultural Senior Club was crowned the ultimate winner of the day and received a trophy the other teams are sure to try and take away from them at next year’s event.
