Women must embrace their courage and perseverance and trust in God in whatever they do, was the message of Junita van As at a Woman’s Day event presented for the women of Durbanville police at the Durbanville Presbyterian Church last Thursday.

Van As shared the success story of how she was retrenched during the Covid-19 pandemic and then started HAP-PEA, a business that sells healthy takeaway salads and delivers in Durbanville.

400 salads per day

She sold 13 salad bowls in Durbanville on the first day of business on 1 September 2020. By December of that year, she had to appoint an assistant, and they made 100 salads daily. Her kitchen and house soon became too small. By April this year, she had nine women working for her, making up to 400 salads daily.

“I believe God has given us one body to look after,” she said. “If your body, mind and soul are looked after, you will be a happy person. If you believe you can do something, you can, with the grace of God. Women have to believe in themselves.”

Theresa Uys, councillor for Ward 112, said society put unnecessary pressure on women. “When women look in the mirror, they do not see their inner beauty, but that is what being a woman is all about”.
