The current executive committee of the Summer Greens Ratepayers Association (SGRA) is looking forward to the next chapter and has faith that the new committee who will be elected tomorrow (7 July) will bring a fresh outlook.
Shannon Lawrence, SGRA spokesperson, says the ratepayers association was established in 2018 with nine members serving on the executive committee – Gary Jacobs (chair), Bridgette Lloyd (vice-chair), Tracy Collinet (secretary), Morné Avenant (treasurer), Edgar Wright (vice-treasurer), Shannon Lawrence (marketing and public relations), Annette Richards (safety and security), Nathan Isaacs (youth development coordinator) and Vennesia Loubser in social development.
“Jacobs has fulfilled his role as chair for three years and despite being in the midst of a pandemic, loadshedding, burst pipes and an ongoing struggle with illegal buildings the SGRA has really worked hard at trying to maintain the welfare of Summer Greens,” says Lawrence.
Although the committee, along with the community of Summer Greens, had a few hurdles to overcome, one of their major successes was securing a solid wall at the end of Heath Road, known for vagrants jumping over and engaging in unsavoury activities in the area.
“The erection of the wall was done with great help from Eskom who owns the vacant land between Summer Greens and the N7.
As a community we have many challenges still to face, but we do believe that we can overcome these obstacles by standing firm and working together with our active neighbourhood watch, the City of Cape Town and other law enforcement to keep crime at bay and make our suburb better for future generations,” Lawrence says.
She added that the community of Summer Greens is looking forward to an even stronger game plan now that the National State of Disaster has been lifted.
The AGM is being held in the Summer Greens Community Hall tomorrow at 19:00.
Ratepayers and residents will be welcomed by the chair and the report will be shared with attendees. On the agenda is the election of new committee members as a chair, vice-chair, secretary, vice-secretary, social development, safety and security, marketing and projects, youth development, treasurer, vice-treasurer, water and sanitation. If the public wish to speak, they may apply in writing to the Summer Greens Ratepayers Association for a 5-minute slot.
