Four Namibian nationals were arrested for house robbery on a smallholding in the Melkbosstrand rural area last week.
Lt Col Malcolm Pojie, police spokesperson, told the newspaper the victim, a woman, alerted officers performing crime-prevention duties on the R27 of her ordeal.
She made them aware she had just been tied up at her smallholding while robbers searched the house for valuables before fleeing with jewellery and electronic devices.
She managed to free herself to seek help.
The officers immediately mobilised all resources to their disposal and initiated a search-and-cordoning-off operation to trace the suspects, believed to be still in the area.
“The efforts of the integrated multi-disciplinary team paid off when they detected the four suspects in the adjacent farmlands with the help of a thermal device used during the search,” Pojie said.
Arrest
The team arrested the four suspects, aged 29 to 35, and managed to retrieve some of the stolen items, jewellery and electronic devices, as well as the weapons used by them during the house robbery, which included knives and screwdrivers.
The suspects appeared in the Atlantis Magistrates’ Court last week on a charge of house robbery. “Provincial police management of the Western Cape has lauded the integrated team for their commitment and meticulous approach,” says Pojie, “which resulted in the arrests of the perpetrators.”
The Melkbosstrand police, sea border police, Melkbosstrand Neighbourhood Watch, Community Safety and Support, Rural Safety and City of Cape Town Law Enforcement teamed-up, which led to the arrests of the four men.
