Police are investigating a string of violent incidents in Kraaifontein after three separate shootings in Wallacedene left three people dead, a fourth person wounded, and a woman raped in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Western Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa confirmed that crime scene experts were still combing the scenes on Sunday as detectives try to unravel the motive behind the violence.
According to police, the first incident occurred at about 01:00 when a 35-year-old man was gunned down in the Mhongqo informal settlement. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are not yet known.
An hour later, another man was shot and wounded close to the first scene. During the attack, his female companion was raped about 30 metres away.
At about 03:15am, two men, both estimated to be between 25 and 30 years old, were fatally shot near the earlier crime scenes.
“The motive for the shooting incidents is the subject of the initiated police investigations,” said Potelwa.
This means the tally from Sunday’s shootings stands at three dead, one wounded, and one woman raped. No arrests have been made.
In a separate incident, police confirmed that a man died after being stabbed in the chest in the Covid informal settlement in Bloekombos on Saturday evening.
Police have deployed additional resources to the area as investigations continue.
