Four men were admitted to hospital yesterday with gunshot injuries, police say.
Mitchell’s Plain Police Station commander, Brig Brian Muller, said the injured men and those firing on them were all suspected gangsters.
Crime Watch WhatsApp groups first reported the shooting claiming it was a drive-by, but Muller said the men had in fact been followed.
He said the four men left Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court by car yesterday, (12 August) at about 10:20.
According to the crime watch group they were driving a Toyota Tazz.
Muller said the driver had noticed that they were being followed by a blue car when they reached Katdoring Street in Eastridge, which is about 1km away.
According to the crime watch group, the second vehicle was a VW Polo.
Muller said the driver of the first car turned into Boekenhout Street and the second vehicle passed them before stopping. Two men got out and fired on the first car.
The driver of the first car tried to escape and collided with the second vehicle. He drove to Mitchell’s Plain Community Health Centre where all four men were admitted and received treatment for gunshot wounds.
They are in a stable condition, Muller said adding that the men in the first car are known gangsters and it is suspected that their assailants are from a rival gang.
